Options trading involves substantial risk

• Assignment risk. Selling options (as in cash-secured puts and covered calls) carries the risk of early or unexpected assignment, which can obligate you to buy or sell the underlying shares.
• Total loss risk. A cash-secured put can result in owning shares at a strike price above the stock's market value; a covered call caps your upside while your downside risk on the shares remains.
• Spread-specific risk. Credit spreads limit both potential profit and potential loss, but a maximum loss can still exceed the credit received relative to your capital at risk.
• Liquidity risk. Even contracts that clear our open interest, volume, and spread filters at scan time may become harder to exit at a fair price later, particularly around news events or earnings.
• Timing risk. Market conditions, implied volatility, and prices change continuously. A setup that looked attractive when scanned may no longer be attractive by the time you review or act on it.
